We began our long drive south heading towards Invercargill, where we anticipated we would spend the night. However upon our arrival we noticed that there wasn't a great deal to be seen so we made the decision to head further on towards Dunedin and spend our first night in Percy. We headed towards slope point, new Zealand's most southern point on the south island, and came across a view point called Waipapa point. Unfortunately by the time we arrived it was dark and the only thing we could make out clearly was a nearby lighthouse which as we would later discover would proved to be quite an annoying night light! We couldn't quite make out the view but as we could hear the sea was close we chose to go with it and see what awaited us in the morning.
Upon our arrival at waipapa point we were greeted by what we believe to be a possum. In an attempt to film it we captured one of the funniest moments ever caught on camera, as Neil was unaware he was still filming and as we checked out the toilets he was frightened to the point of squealing by his own shadow. We manage to put the shock behind us and positioned Percy facing out to sea and set up camp for the night feasting on a dominoes pizza purchased from our drive through of Invercargill. We awoke to a stunning view of the sea and the amazing sound of waves breaking on the rocks and then had to draw ourselves away to continue our journey to Dunedin.
