After a hour and a half drive across to Methven we arrived to this tiny town. A bit cowboy like from the films. It had 2 pubs, 2 shops, 1 petrol station and a couple places to stay, one of which was mt hutt bunkhouse. Really nice lil hostel with cool people. Tim the owner gave us the low down and we decided to go snowboarding the following morning so chilled and went to the pub, greeted by chilli the singing performing ski instructor. The following morning it was time to go up to mt hutt. Collecting gear on the way from various shops we began the drive. The drive of hell! Icy rocky mountain roads with no barriers and thousands of feet drop on the edge. So slowly but surely we made our ways up there, getting stuck on an ice patch which was scary as hell. If it slid back maybe 10 20 meters then percy, and all our belongings would be scattered across the bottom of the alps. Lessons on snowboarding were great. Sam the biologist from uk taught us well and we smashed it. Becoming slightly addicted we decided to stay another night and do some more the next day. Evening was cool, met some really cool people in the hostel which ended in us deciding to give Rytch a ride back to Christchurch so he could paint our van being a talented tattooist and sculpter and taking CLAUDEEE TO QUEENSTOWN. Morning came, snowboarding was amazing, got a flat tyre on the way down the mountain, finally fixed it, picked up Rytch from the hostel and started the long journey to Christchurch then to Lake Tepako with Rytch and CLAUDEEE, our hitchhikers. Arriving in Christchurch took Rytch to his hostel where he finally started the work in the car park. People walking past us stopped and talked to us and shared a few stories and a few tips in where to go while we drank beer and listened to a tramp tripping balls jamming his guitar. Amazing people. This part was done and a 3 hour journey to Lake Tepako then awaited :)
