We have spent our last couple of days in Paris just wandering the streets enjoying the sights and sounds of this wonderful city.
Yesterday we walked down the Champs Élysées and I guess fortunately for someone the Louis Vuitton shop was on the other side of the street. We also found some extraordinary shoes and fashion along the way.
Today we have just wander through streets and lanes on the right bank not far from the river and found more fabulous little shops and markets. I came across a calligraphy supplies shop with some amazing items in the window including some folded books. This won't mean much to many but the calligraphers who might be following this blog will understand my excitement. Unfortunately the shop was closed as it was Sunday otherwise I am sure some items may have been coming home with me.
We also found the Place de la Bastille which we had travelled beneath the other day on our canal tour. Last weekend there were great celebrations there when election results were announced. There were also lots of street celebrations near where we are staying as it is a strong student area but many people met in the Place de la Bastille for a big party that went on into Sunday.
Tomorrow we head off to Strasbourg for the next part of our trip. We are traveling by TGV which if the French equivalent of the bullet trains in Japan.
Hopefully Internet access will continue to be reliable and I will be able to keep letting you know of our travels.
