May Day in Paris and everyone was out and about. We knew we wouldn't get into see very much so spent the day walking around.
Our apartment is 5 minutes walk from Notre Dame cathedral which is where we started. The queues to get into the cathedral were hundreds of meters long so we wandered by.
We found church a few blocks from Notre Dame called St Gervais. It was the first place we had come to where there weren't hoards of people. We wandered around listening to an organist rehearsing and discovered that there are two organs in this particular church and they are the oldest in Paris so I think we were lucky to get to hear one of them being played.
We then wandered down past the Louvre and through the Tuileries watching how the French along with tourists from every part of the world spend a public holiday in Paris.
Our plan is to visit more iconic buildings over the next few days once the Parisians get back to work and school.
