Our first full day in France. We picked up the hire car from the airport and, with only minor confusion, headed away from Paris to the city of Amiens. We visited the cathedral (the tallest cathedral in France and could hold two Notre Dames inside it) before heading out to the Australian memorial at Villers Bretonneux.
We found the name of the great uncle of a friend on the wall at the Villers Bretonneaux. There are nearly 11,000 names of soldiers who died in France in WWI with no known graves listed on that wall. We found Sargent John Warfield listed in his battalion without any trouble.
Not many photos to show today as it has rained steadily most of the time. We are hoping for better weather on the morning of ANZAC Day for the dawn service or we will be very wet and cold.
Have included a couple of the B&B we are staying in, a beautifully restored old farm house in a small village about 20 minutes drive from Amiens.
