I realize I haven't written for a couple of days but Internet connection has not been as reliable recently.
We have spent the last couple of days in and around Interlaken in Switzerland. It is a stunningly beautiful country with sweeping views of Snowcapped mountains, lakes and beautiful green hillsides everywhere. There really are cows with bells here. They are on hillsides and in little fields right next to the road. This morning we stopped in a little village and you could hear the cowbells ringing all around.
Yesterday we took the trains up to the Jungfrau. I visited this mountain many years ago on my first trip to Europe and it wasn't until we started on the journey again that I remembered how amazing the trip was. We travelled from Interlaken on various trains to Kleine Scheidegg which is at the foot of the Eiger. This particular mountain is famous for it's rock and ice climbing so we spent some time studying it and then had a hot chocolate. We caught another cog train that travels through the mountain via a tunnel which was built 100 years ago this year. Unfortunately when we got to the top we were clouded in (which wasn't the case last time I was there) but even so it was worth the trip.
On our way home we stopped at the town of Grindelwald and had a look around. It is a beautiful little town set up for skiing and other mountain activities. All in all, a fantastic day.
Today we went out driving along lakes that are on either side of Interlaken. We wandered through little villages and through farms with cows wandering around. Around every corner there are more stunning views. It is a beautiful country although the cost of living is very high. Worth revisiting though in years to come.
Tomorrow we return to France and hope to travel via Chamonix. Will let you know if we can get through the mountain passes.
