Last night in Dinboche was cold. Damn cold. It's the first time I was pretty much shivering all night long. It was snowing when I went to bed and nighttime lows were around -5C. Remember no heat in our lodge and when nature calls it's an outhouse. The outhouse isn't the problem, it's getting out of your sleeping bag when it's -5C that's the problem. Oh I miss the J.W. Marriott!
Today we are staying in Dinboche but doing a day trek to Narajan peak at 5000m. As it wasn't a full day trek we slept in until 8am and were on the road by 9am. The weather was beautiful when we woke up sunny, probably 10C+ but with a cold light wind. Pretty much perfect weather to trek in.
Our day started with the uphill climb of Narajan peak and all was great. The air really is thin up here so our climb was about the speed of a turtle, but we would still find ourselves out of breath if we pushed it any faster. Then when we got about 3/4th's of the way up the wind picked up and due to our altitude it started to get cold. We pushed to the top and savoured the views and took lots of pictures but let me tell you I could not wait to start our descent. If I could have run I would have as I was colder than a Popsicle. The descent was quick and easy and we cruised down like it was nothing. Mission accomplished!
