Well what can I say. I can't believe we are about to start our last day of trekking.
Yesterday in the late afternoon we went to the once-a-week market in Namche Bazaar. It's the day of the week when villagers from higher up and lower down the Khumbu valley come and sell their wares.
The market was pretty basic, no stalls or anything, just stuff like eggs, soap, spices, lentils, shoes, batteries etc. You name it they sell it. It was pretty small and kind of uneventful to be honest. But it was worth seeing.
We started today at Namche Bazaar and worked our way down through Sagarmatha National Park to Manjo where we spent our first night in our trek. We have been going pretty quickly as the hiking is primarily downhill (thank god!)
The day was cloudy and cool but not cold. Pretty much perfect weather for trekking. Not too hot and not too cold.
As I was trekking I was trying to soak up everything I could as I know I will never be back here again. It made the hike enjoyable knowing the finish-line was near.
We made great progress passing Manjo and stopped at a small village for lunch. Just as we finished lunch it started to rain like crazy. A storm which we were hoping would pass didn't. So we put our rain gear on and forged on. The rain gear worked well and i have proof that my hiking boots are waterproof - thankfully.
As we neared our final destination of Lukla I was more inspired than ever to push that little bit harder as I wanted to make a strong finish.
As we approached the last hill I was thankful that I will soon be walking on flat-land. As I crested the final steps and crossed the "Lukla arch" that welcomes you to the village I felt elated, exhausted and proud of my achievement.
Now is a time for reflecting on the experience which I'll write more on tomorrow.
For now we stay tonight in Lukla and hopefully fly out tomorrow morning at 8:30am. But as this is Lukla airport anything can happen - and usually does, as our flight will be weather and cloud dependent. Today's flights were all cancelled until about 3pm when the cloud finally lifted.
Fingers crossed, that my Sunday morning flight from Lukla isn't delayed as my flight from Kathmandu leaves Monday morning.
