The plan today was to do the hardest trek we've done on the trip - to summit Kala Pathar for amazing views of Everest, Lhotse and othe local giants.
But after such a hard day yesterday trekking to Everest and going to Gorak Shep I was so tired I really didn't believe I had the energy to make it.
Our Sherpa said he would wake up at 4 am to check the weather. He said there is no point doing such a hard trek if it was cloudy. The whole point was the view.
Well he knocked on our door at 5am and said it's not a good day and there is no point in doing the trek as it was snowing and had been snowing all night and was cloudy. Well I can't say I was all that disappointed as my body was finished.
We got up by 7am had breakfast and started the first day of our descent. Well it was much easier than some of the other days but the snow made it treaturous and very slipply and slidy. Luckily the snow started to melt so after the first hour we could get good footings and got a rhythm going.
Because it had been snowing all night the scenery was more spectacular than on our way up. The way the snow fell on the glacier and cast shadows from the rising sun was breathtaking. It looked like nothing I have seen before and I hope my pictures can capture the moment.
So we are on our descent now and I am looking forward to some thicker, oxygen-rich air and some much needed warmth. I am happy I have achieved what I set out to do even at times when I didn't believe I could do it.
We have stopped at Lobuche now for some lunch and some rest today before setting off down to Pangboche.
Can't wait for a hot shower and some good ole oxygen.
Over and out...
