After returning from the bus trip we lunched next to the hotel at a Trattoria, clearly a family owned business. It was the first time we had chosen to eat inside, and realised what a treat it was to be in the cool, and to be free of the street hawkers. The food was divine, and the fridge behind Bretts seat full of fresh lettuce, huge capsicums, and other Italian foods. It was the first time I had felt sure we were getting the genuine article and not some tourist version of it.
Then we wandered into town in the heat. And its really hot. There are no shopping malls or any kind of group shops, just small shops off the street. Its very quaint and feels a bit odd not do be able to escape the heat in a mall. We find this fab shirt shop, if you can enlarge it you'll see the collars and button strips all feature different fabrics on the same shirts. The variety endless, Brett bought this one! I found bag shop after bag shop and Brett got the hang of what its like when I shop! I think hes over it already.
There are great shoes here but who can try them when dripping with perspiration and swollen feet?? I'll stick with the bags. Ths shops are open til 8pm on saturdays, we walked all the way down Via Nazionale over a couple of hours, and eventually ended up at Museo forum emperio. No airconditioning here and we are fast fading into dehyrated wrecks, but we soldier on and view the ruins from 5pm til 6.30pm. We saw large marble statues and some modern artworks interspersed. it overlooked Trajuns market. Upon leaving we collapsed outside a cafe for a drink. Fortuitously, the gave us chips and nibbles because in the end after a beer for Brett and a Bellini (mango and wine, yum) for me and some water ( no doubt not enough) we caught a cab home and collapsed into bed, no dinner. No complaints.
