We were up early to catch the Metro to Musei Vatica to join our tour at 9.45am. It is a much better temperature at this time, but not by the time we enter the station Termini, and cleverly buy 2 day passes from a machine, and join the train with so many other people! Honestly, I dont know where they came from, one second theres us then theres hundreds descending the stairs th line A. We got off and its scorching already, I buy my first purchase, a 2 euro japanese fan. could be my best purchase too!
Our tour guide is Catherine, from USA who's been here 6 years. We have an earbud in our ear and she is talking into a miniature microphone. Its the best tour we've ever done. I can hear everything she says and she is a mine of knowledge, no notes. We go to Vatican Museums, then the Sistine Chapel then St Peters Basilica. The Pope has heatstroke otherwise we would miss the Basilica as its closed on wednesday for some special occasion.
We thought we had seen the best church in the world last year at St Pauls cathedral, but we think St Peters is the bees knees. We thoroughly enjoy our 3 hours, drinking water as we go, fanning with my new fan, and sweating profusely in the heat.
Afterwards we hit the hot street and head toward the metro, and wander into a shoe shop. I find 2 pairs of theatre clogs, for 46 Euro. Very good pricing. Then I manage some handbag shopping! Its cool in the shop and the italians are much friendlier than other europeans so its fun. I make purchases and brett is impressed, though he is desperate to sit down and theres no chair for him.
