We get off the Metro at Circus Maximo and walk in the slightly less hot air down toward Trastavere. On the way as we pass the Forum there have set up 4 large screens for people to view the final of the euro soccer, italy vs Spain. we had not idea i was on and there are thousands obviously coming, it starts in 3 hours.
We walk past the crowds and on to Trastavere, along side the tiber river. It is really lovely, crooked walkways (mostly with traffic..) and a piazza with almost no cars! Walking along I decide I want 2 budgies to sit on my finger, B takes a photo, and then unexpectedly a fortune telling message! She then makes out this is 20 euros worth, but I am way to hard for that and give her 3 after she manages to give brett a fortune telling message also! The budgies were so cute, and looked healthy and well fed!
We meander up the hill to get a view over Rome up Via Garabaldi, Piazza San Petro In Montorio, with a church and the 3rd wedding we have witnessed in a week. We wander back down the windy, narrow streets and recognise someones drying laundry that we saw earlier to lead us back to the piazza for dinner. We eat at a cafe that states they hate war and tourist menus! we et inside, its so nice to do this, and have a lovely meal. I accidentally order caprese with the biggest slices of buffalo mozzarella i've ever seen. Yum.
On the way back the football has started and theres thousands in the slight valley below the street. we get to our metro to find it locked (anticipating way too many misbehaving people) and quickly walk to Colsseo station. There are people everywhere and we are keen to get bak to the hotel, and we sit in the bar for a while to watch the football, but italy lose 4-0.
