A day on the Metro; Manzoni, Colli Albani, Piazza Del Poppolo, Circus Maximus
Los Angeles, California
Actually still in Rome......we start the day with a lovely big brekky, here at the hotel they do it well. brett has slipped into a lovely habit of 3 pastries after his cereal and fruit.
I have discovered banana flavoured yoghurt and am hooked! We hit the metro with a 6euro each day pass, and go first to Manzoni to an apartment in an ordinary unassuming street which was used by the Gestapo for detaining and interrogating prisoners.
Then we head to Colli Albani to go to Appain Way but abandoned the quest on leaving the metro as it looked too far away. Back on to Piazza Del Poppolo then for lunch. Such a busy Piazza and so bludy hot even with fans on your back, I cant believe it when to police (Carabinieri) enter the cafe in full uniform, blazer done up and hats on! The obelisk in the Piazza was originally situated in Circus maximus in Roman times and was moved! No mean feat when u see the size. We have now seen these in Egypt, Paris, and here. After a lovely lunch, including yet another version of bruschetta with lovely tomato, Brett had canneloni and me lemony gnocchi we and went back on the metro in search of the area recommended for dinner by our former tour guide, Herta.
