On Friday 4th of Sep. Nina asked if I want to join her, Vanessa and Kasper to a hiking trip. They had bought already food for four people and I said of course I´m in. Departure was on Saturday at 8:10am, so we knew that we have to get bed early. We were supposed to hike about 27 kilometers in two days and sleep in the hut somewhere in the middle of the track. On Friday we eat dinner in our common room and decided to make low-cost-beer-tasting-evening. Our evening started slowly and little by little there came more people and suddenly we were playing drinking games and later that night we went to one very nice club. There were only rich kids with their fancy clothes and we were just a bunch of exchange students with our normal clothes. No one paid any attention to us and we had nice time. We came back to home at 3am and we had to wake up at 7.
I wasn´t sober yet when I backed my stuff to the hiking trip. First we took a bus from Reykjavik to Borsmörk. It took four hours and we stopped two times to take photos from waterfall and glacier. In Borsmörk we had lunch and then we started our hike. Our hike went between two glaciers and it was well marked (most of the way). At the beginning we were not sure where to go because there was a river that we had to cross. I and Kasper tried to cross that river but it was too deep, current was too strong and water was icy. We got good luck because one bus stopped and we got a lift to the other side.
Our first day was quite hard because the total altitude difference was over +800 meters and we were going up and down. On our way we met some other hikers and one of them asked that where we are going? Then he asked do we have a gps? We said noup. Then he asked that do we have a map? Noup, are we in trouble? He said that he don´t want to frighten us but tomorrow it might be bad weather and it is difficult to follow the path if it´s foggy. We continued our journey and arrived to our hut before 8pm. Landscape was breathtaking in our first day. I actually didn´t know much about our hike and didn´t know before what´s the meaning of hut. I thought it´s more like a hostel kind of house with hot showers and electricity.
Our hut was very cozy and there was also a guy from Germany. There wasn´t neither running water nor electricity so we had to dig a hole to the glacier to get some fresh snow. We melted the snow and cooked some pasta with sausages and tomato sauce. After dinner we played few rounds of cards and went to sleep. It was +3 degrees outside and +11 inside so I felt a bit cold with my light sleeping back. On next day we woke up early, had breakfast and hit to road again. Weather was nice and it rained just few drops. We were heading to Skogafoss and it was mainly downhill. It was much easier hike than day before and on the way we saw many waterfalls and lamp. We arrived to Skogafoss before 1pm and there was only one bus to Reykjavik leaving at 4:10pm. We asked from many cars if they were going to Reykjavik but no one wasn´t going straight there. We went to one restaurant to wait for our bus. We had very nice fish soup and for dessert delicious chocolate muffins and coffee. We arrived to Reykjavik at 7pm and we all were tired but happy. It was nice trip with very nice people!!!
