Day 159: 8/5/13
My last day in Melbourne!
It was quite uneventful really as it involved a lot of packing!! Firstly though I had to print my flight itinerary and book a shuttle bus for the morning- I'll be leaving at 6am!!
I had to go through all my stuff in the morning and see if it would fit and then decide what I was posting to Ireland and what was to be dumped. I hate dumping things!! There's a charity bin here so most things went in that. At least it wasn't as bad as dumping it!!
When I had finally figured out what I was posting, I put it all in the box, tapes it up with tape from reception and went to the post office! I got them to check how much it would be by sea mail and air mail- sea was 76 and air was 150. So, surprisingly I picked sea mail!! It could take up to three months to deliver so I'll probably be home before it!! But that doesn't matter! It's mostly clothes anyway so it's grand!
I went to the pharmacy then and got a few last bits that I needed. One of the girls in the hostel is Italian. She works as a chef in Melbourne central. She's been there the whole time I've been there but I don't see much of her as she works at 4:30am and is gone all day!! She spotted me on my way to the pharmacy and insisted on giving me free pizza for my last day here!! That was lovely!! She's really nice- it's just a pity that she has to work all the time!!
I went back to the hostel then and started properly packing. Surprisingly everything seemed to fit first time around. I have a lot of clothes in there, a lot more than I came with bit they fit easily enough!! I didn't even have to sit on it!!! I binned some shoes that I had for teaching, the boots I had bought for the cold weather and flip flops that were broken. Also, my sun hat got the chop as it was all squished! Some of my clothes that were too old, too ruined, too big, etc got binned too. I left behind some wash stuff and food that I didn't need. Someone will benefit!
I spent ages then ironing all the stuff and putting it in neatly as I don't think I will see an iron between now and when I get home!!
In the evening I was chatting to Mam and Dad who are in Cork for Ger's father's funeral. I was talking to Shell then and she told me all about the supervision job, the staff night out and football training- I'd a good long chat with her!!
That was about my excitement for today!! I uploaded all my photos to the laptop aswell and put a new memory card in the camera so I have plenty of space for photos!! Also, I downloaded some more books and games on my phone for all the long planes and buses ahead!!
I'm going to start a new blog for the last bit of the travels. It should be www.offexploring.com/lorglynncominghome
I'd imagine I'll have lots to write and lots of photos so I think these last 7 weeks deserve a new blog!!
