Day 155: 4/6/13
I could have a little bit of a sleep in this morning- I didn't get up until almost seven! I have to go to Flinders Street and then change train there. I was just on time for the train I normally get but it wasn't there! I thought I missed it but then I realised they had just moved it to a different platform so I just made it!! There are three different train lines going through the station I need to go to so there are trains every few minutes, but still I didn't want to be late!
I had a 3/4 class today. There was one class that I didn't really want and if course it was that one!! Most of the class aren't bad, there's just one boy that won't play ball at all. Of course straight away he was making rapping best sounds and wouldn't read a book when they were all supposed to be silent reading. Eventually he was quiet, but he wasn't reading. They had read a story yesterday and today they had to write from the point of view of the characters, what they felt, thought, did, wondered, etc. Most of them worked fairly well at that- of course the other lad did nothing.
They had PE then and I had to go to a 5/6 class. I had to read them a bit of a Dreamtime story, then take them to Library and then do a spelling activity. They were pretty okay.
When I came back from, the PE teacher was waiting for me as the same one lad had brought out a staple gun from the teachers desk! I had out a behaviour system on the board where you move up or down depending on you're behaviour. His name was moved down further straight away for this and he assured me he'd try to get his name back up after break.
After lunch we had Maths. The teacher had everything left so at least there was no panic about what to do. We did some short activities first and yerman tried really hard and got his name up on the list. Then when they were to do proper work he called someone a name and wouldn't do anything, just threw his book on the ground! He decided then to walk out of the class and go to the office as he reckoned that was what was going to happen anyway. I followed him and he hid behind a door just as the principal came out of her office. So she called him in and I went back to the class. The rest of the class are perfectly fine really. One grouo for Maths had to do some problem solving activities- looking at patterns and discovering what the rule was for the pattern, coming up with different ways to solve the problem- they were really good at it! They did handwriting after the Maths and then we went to the library- all was fairly peaceful! The lad came back from the office a library and was fine there. After snack they had art so I wasn't with them anyway. I had the 5/6 class again. They were just working on in their writing. They didn't really want to do any work so it was a struggle to keep them working!!
When I collected all my tickets at the travel ageny at the weekend there was a list you could add your name to if you wanted to be contacted about tax back. I put my name down and the woman in charge of it contacted my yesterday. I just wanted information really as I thought I couldn't do it until I had my last pay slip. But she said to call in this evening and she'd sort all the forms out and then all I'd need to do would be to email her my payslip when I get it and then she can finalise it. There did seem to be an issue about being six consecutive months in the country so hopefully all is good! You can claim back your super too, which is your pension fund. She gave me some forms to fill out about that and I've to go back to her Friday. You need a copy of your passport verified for the super application so I went straight to the pharmacy to get the pharmacist to do it but they don't do it apparently! I'll have to try somewhere else tomorrow. It would be great to have all the applications out of the way and then it could all be sorted while I'm in Asia and I wouldn't have to do anything else!!
When I got back to the hostel I went downstairs to use the wifi. I wanted to upload some pictures to the blog and stuff. There was a trivia quiz just starting so I decided to do it. A girl notice I was on my own and she decided to join me. She was a German girl. Afterwards I realised she had moved into our room today! Two Canadian guys joined us separately at later stages in the quiz! There was a movie round with pictures of movies and they were a great help for that!! Some of the questions were normal general knowledge stuff but then other ones were like- how many tattoos does the quizmaster have? How many doors are in the hostel?- random stuff like that! It was good enough fun!
I stayed for a little while chatting to the teammates and I didn't get anything don't on the laptop! The German girl had just arrived in Australia after working in New Zealand for 8 months. Both Canadians were looking for jobs and will probably be here for a little while working if they get a job! One was a zoologist!! I've never met a zoologist before!! He was looking for work but he only response he got was a request for a massage!! The joys of Internet job searching!! The other guy was pretty chatty and gave us a full run down of a weekend he spent hiking in Chile- every minute detail! It was pretty funny though!
