Started this morning early as we needed to make our way to fishermans pier to depart on our harbour cruise. Met a nice couple from Canada outside the hotel and got a lot of information for when we make it to Canada. On the way to the wharf we went down the crookedest street on lombard road. It is a must see visitor spot here and you can only travel 5 mph on the nine hairpin turns. Once we were at the pier we boarded red and white fleets and started our cruise around the bay, under the golden gate bridge, Alcatraz and angel island. View was amazing and looked like a postcard. San Francisco may be busy, full of homeless and hard to drive around but the architecture is amazing. Once off our cruise we headed to the famous pier 39 for lunch. The pier is full of shops and restaurants. I had crab cakes and shrimp and crab salad. It was delicious, so fresh. After having a look around we made our way to pier 33 to board our ferry to Alcatraz. On the way we were stopped by a bunch of college students that were on a scavenge hunt and had to complete tasks that earned them points. To earn 15 points they needed to stop 4 tourists and get one to take photo of the group and the other 3 tourists in a thinking pose outside the pier sign. We were happy to oblige and they were a nice bunch of people. We then lined up to board for Alcatraz. You see it in the movies and on tv but it is so much better being there in person. We completed the audio tour and had a good look around. The view from their is incredible. Once back at the pier I wanted to buy some fruit as the plums were the size of oranges here and the strawberries are huge. Now this goes to
show that junk food is cheaper than healthy food hence why Americans pick deep fried food all the time. I bought 1 apple, 2 plums, 2 peaches, 1 nectarine and a few strawberries and it cost $ 23.67. Crazy. Apparently all the citrus fruit comes from Australia anyway. Once back at the hotel we rested the legs a bit before going out for dinner. I relented and let the kids go to Ihop for tea. I had a really nice turkey salad baguette and they had slop of some sort. We have 2 weeks to go and we are not enjoying the food at all and getting sick of the taste. It is so hard to find anything that isn't smothered in cheese or oil. MSG is in all oriental food so struck out there as well. So that ended our day early as we are driving back south to San Diego tomorrow which will take us 11 hrs.....the kids had better sleep in the car.
