We started the day having a sleepin and I wandered down to hertz to pick up our vehicle. Apparently so did every other tourist so Paul and the kids were waiting for nearly an hour out the front of our hotel in the heat. When it was my turn I was advised there was no more gps available....this is when I started to panic. A couple of young Aussie guys that were also heading in the same direction convinced me I would be ok and a local got his phone out and showed me how to get on my way. So I got in the car and headed for the hotel....managed to do that. Paul took over to get out of LA traffic was crazy as most people don't indicate and you can turning red lights. After crawling on the freeway for a fair while we finally got on to the main freeway and headed north. Our first pitstop was Santa Barbara to stretch our legs and to change drivers over. I then tensely drove to salinas....a very dodgy looking town that to be honest I was glad to see the back of. We then headed towards Santa cruz but found a comfort inn at Watsonville which is just before Santa cruz. There was only one room left at the room so we were more than happy as we had taken a few wrong exits on our travels today and were a bit over the driving. In total we drove for 8.5 hours....only 2 more to go. So tired we are giving tea a miss....though we are all still full of grease from our jack in a box meal for lunch. Thought it was a good idea to try cheesy bacon fries. I think the only time they would taste good is on the way home from the pub. Lesson learned today.....driving so far with two kids in the car fighting over the middle of the backseat arm rest will create an unhappy car ride. Seriously should have knocked them out with phenergan first
