Started at 7am this morning saying goodbye to San francisco as we were heading to San Diego. Very cold when we left and encountered a lot of traffic. We made a few pitstops including one country gas station that had the worst toilet I have ever seen. We could smell it when we opened the car door, it was the only one for miles so had no choice. We kept on our way to San Simeon to go to Hearst castle. This is located in the middle of nowhere and is the most amazing place to see. It is a castle high up on a mountain with nothing surrounding that was built by William herst in the early 1900's. It tool him 28 years to build and is constructed with materials and artwork from all over the world, I have never seen anything like it. One of the rooms inspired hogwarts from Harry potter. The indoor pool was made with pure gold tiles. We were also told we were the first Tasmanian since error Flynn to be at the castle. We were there a bit longer than expected and needed to get on the road as we had a very long drive ahead. We stopped at McDonalds and the kids were disappointed by not having supersize as an option....I was quite glad that no longer seems to be an option. We headed towards LA to get to San Diego. It was long and tiring as I had to navigate as Paul drove and kids slept. We had to make a rest stop before we shut our eyes driving down. The rest stops here are amazing. The toilet buildings look like small churches and exotic buildings and are so clean. They also have vending machines for everything including great coffee.....that got unto San Diego. So after arriving at 11pm which was 16 hrs after we departed we are having a much deserved sleep before going to seaworld tomorrow.
