Road trip - day 33 - Wednesday
No plans made in advance for today; woke early but snoozed! The weather is cool & cloudy with a slight mist first thing. Had breakfast outside (tough call between inside & out!). G went to the Vitsl for bread as the bakery is shut on a Wednesday, very nice bread today!!
Decided on a whim to go South & West to Pontivy, 50 miles away. On the way there we keep hearing on the main news about storms due for tomorrow morning!!
The draw to Pontivy is the castle & medieval town. Couldn't find signs for either. Parked on the road next to the river & crossed where there looked to be some old buildings. Found the medieval streets; G asked a lady (on French) where the castle is .... she responded (in French) that she didn't understand English!! G most put out!! Used the 'looking at postcards' trick to establish a visual of the local landmarks!
Stopped at a bar for hot chocolate; walked a bit further but Pontivy isn't the most picturesque town! Set back towards the car to drive to Noyal Pontivy but found a bar with wifi & decided to wait for the jeweller to reopen. We had seen some silver bangles that would make a really lovely present!
Back at the car we headed for Noyal Pontivy with the thought if it didn't look promising we would head back home; having tea at the Gite tonight ..... our last self catering night ;(
On the way we stopped at a LeClerc outside Pontivy to do our present & booze shopping. We got loads .... a full trolley of bottles & bonbons!! Cost 190 euros!!!! Surprisingly it fitted in the car quite well, although G is a bit concerned about the weight in the back especially going over speed humps.
Noyal Pontivy turns out to be a bit of a non starter & by this time the sky is dark with rain clouds - back to the Gite it is!
After tea I do a bit more packing & loading the car - need to be up early & away tomorrow. Plan to have breakfast in Dinan at the market. G not feeling too good so he went to bed with flu capsules pretty early. I, for the first time in 5 weeks, watch TV. Outside it's chilly & drizzly.
