Road trip - day 30 - Sunday
First thing, caught up with the blog from yesterday - the day had been so busy I hadn't recorded anything!
Headed out to the Sunday market at Phelan Le Petit, turned out to be a veg, olive, cheese, fish & egg stall plus the bakers & butchers were open .... everything you would need! Not busy, but there again we weren't out till 11am. Just got croissant & bread from the bakers plus an interesting bag of local Breton 'biscuits' - not pleasant to eat, more like cardboard!
Used the big map in the car park to decide to head north to the coast. Heading for Plancoet then on to Pleneuf Val Andre to the beaches & cliffs west of Dinan. Hot & sunny and 20c already, stopped at a cafe for orange juice, ate bread in the car - breakfast on the move today! Breton music playing on the radio - very appropriate!
Visited
Le val Andre - sat on wall, nice bay
- walked on beach
Erquy beach - no cafe, mobile homes, big carpark
Erquy Port - marina & lighthouse
Cap Erquy - drove through, lots of cars parked up
Sable D'Or les Pins - new beach resort for families, had a mega ice cream (more whipped cream than ice cream, queasy afterwards!) & drink
Cap Frehel - paid 2 euros to park at the end by the lighthouses, spectacular scenery. G went further to the Cap & the stacks to see the sea birds whilst I sat in the sun & read. Award for the worst ladies toilets!
Forte la Latte - our 1997 - guide book said this was in private hands & not open to the public so we just thought we would see it from the road. It is open but we got there well after 6pm & it had closed! Parked up & after debate as to whether we could enter or not we took the path. It was steep towards the end but got photos from the top. Very nice gardens.
St Cast Le-Guildo - drove through, down a very steep road with glimpses of the sea then along a very short sea front & out along the same peninsula road.
No bars open & certainly no where to eat so resigned to pasta & sauce and back to the Gite arriving around 8.30pm. Still warm on the sun ... but the sun had gone from the back of the Gite some time ago
Tomorrow, depending on the weather we plan to go to Decathlon to buy a beach shelter & then go to our beach of choice for the day with picnic & sun cream! But .... which beach is the question???
