Saturday 19th April - Road Trip - Day 1
We arrived at Folkestone after only one service station stop (and Costa Coffee!) around 5.30am. We made a beeline for the early arrivals service station which was very much closed - but the toilets were open ..... which was very welcome!
We stayed in the car park and had a quick sleep until around 7am having realised that we maybe should have purchased a car parking ticket!!
We took the very short hop to the Eurotunnel check in. Very impressed with the speed and ease to use ..... George only had to put his credit card in the machine for it to know who we were & what crossing we would be on. We were offered a sooner departure time but it was more important to visit the departure lounge toilets & the Starbucks cafe for breakfast & coffee.
Our Eurotunnel departure time was 8.36am with an arrival time in France around 30mins later
We kept an eye on the departures board & soon enough we were being called for boarding. We must gave looked dodgy because we were one of just a few cars to be security checked which put us to the back of the queue - not that it mattered!
We followed all cars to the boarding lane & just drove onto the awaiting train. Very easy & straight forward.
We sat in our car, listened to the safety announcements & away we went. If anything if was more bouncy than I thought it would be ... but still a very easy crossing experience.
On arrival in Calais I thought we would visit an arrivals lounge, but non!! We were straight out on to the road. We did a quick road tour of Calais then decided that we needed to fill the car with diesel. Eventually we found a big open supermarket & had a quick wander purchasing wine, beer & a bottle opener. The petrol station was underneath and so we filled up before leaving Calais for our overnight accommodation
