Road trip - day 31 - Monday

The plan was to go to the beach for the day & soak up the sun!! Funny how things sometimes don't work out!!

It was blue skies & sunny & warm when we had breakfast outside, got the beach stuff ready. The plan was to nip to Dinan to Decathlon to get a beach shelter & picnic stuff then head westwards to the beaches we found yesterday.

Decathlon proved hard to find, we saw the road sign adverts but ended up miles out of our way towards Rennes. Got our picnic stuff from a big SuperU & asked for directions - gathered it was towards St Malo. At least we have orientated the parking for the Dinan market on Thursday!

Took advantage of the wifi in Decathlon & booked a night in a hotel in Mont St Michel for thursday night - our last night in France. Means we leave the Megrit Gite early, but no great shakes & it will split the trip to Cherbourg up nicely on Friday

On leaving Decathlon & heading west the weather got cloudier & the first drops of rain came along!!

At the beach it was deserted apart from some work vans; we had our picnic on a table with our fleeces on .... read a while but the workmen spreading Tarmac was sort of off putting!

The weather continued to be changeable through the afternoon. Visited a regional product shop & bought some bits. Carried on to Sables D'Or les Pins & had a drink in a cafe after looking at a collection of UK Jaguars parked up outside a hotel. Gathered they come on a short road trip to France each year - this time Brittany. One car only does 11 miles to the gallon - ouch!!

Gave Laura a call, had disappointing news that the sailing times for their trip to St Malo had been changed & they would only get 2.5 hours in France. We could go for a full day to Jersey but regretfully decided not to. We will see Laura & Jacob on Saturday & we could spend the day exploring somewhere different instead of being somewhere familiar :(

By now it was sunny (again), went to the beach & set up the pop up beach shelter, spent a good hour reading on the sands. Couldn't put the beach shelter back in its bag - had at least 3 attempts!!

Headed off home, decided on an omelette for tea. Went to another brand new SuperU - shop open but only half built & the car park wasn't finished! Again thinking of pressie buying we got a few bits. Had tea outside, even though it was a bit dull. Started the list of presents to buy & tried to work out what we already have!
