Today is the last day in Goiania except for about a half day next week. It is a longer trip to Manaus so I don't arrive until late afternoon although I will gain an hour along the way.
I had planned to relax most of the day but I thought I would see what the Zoo area looked like in the daylight. But the Zoo admission was only 2 Reais (1 dollar) so I spent a couple of hours there concentrating on the South American birds and animals. It is not the best Zoo in the world but it was more than worth the price of admission.
I will do one last walk this evening and some laundry and pack.
I have quite enjoyed my time here. The older parts of the city are not much but the newer parts are the equal of anywhere in the world.
It is unfortunate that more people aren't aware of it and that it attracts more tourism. But it very much out in the middle of nowhere with no beaches. I suspect there are a number of similar Brazilian cities.
One thing, however, has perplexed me. Most of the businesses only have walls on three sides, one side left open to the elements. It seems most have pull down medal doors to lock up a night but seldom do the restaurants. They just have heavy plastic almost like a vertical blind. Wouldn't protect the business from anything.
It is a very safe city for Brazil. The crime rate is quite low although all the homes have high steel gates and the apartments have guards. But you don't see the heavy security you do in Sao Paulo.
I think I will have Internet in the hotel in Manaus tomorrow night but if not it will be several days before I update.
