Back home!
The journey was long and tiring.
All planes are not created equal. On the way down we were on an Airbus and even though it was packed I found that it was surprising comfortable for sleeping.
On the way back it was a Boing 767 and the plane was only about 60% full. As a result I had the row to myself but I could not find a comfortable position so sleep was fitful and I arrived in Dallas tired and sore.
American customs have taken red tape and inefficiency to new highs. It took 1 hour and 5 minutes to clear customs and that was with me being able to jump the queue. There was an extremely long line at the initial clearance point but those in transit to Canada or Japan could move to the head of the line. That saved a lot of time.
It was the other layers that took time because of slow machines.
But I managed to make my flight home with a couple of minutes to spare. Pat and Cassandra were at the airport to greet me along with some kid I didn't recognize but who claims to be my grandson. Three weeks results in a lot of changes when you're only 6 weeks old.
A pleasant way to end a wonderful adventure.
