Brazil 2012
It must be disconcerting for speakers from "Western" countries the first few times they speak in Brazil. (And probably most of Latin America.)
Brazilian's are enthusiastic participants but things are certainly more relaxed. It was described as an ant hill. Things are always happening. People are constantly getting up and leaving - often stopping to talk to someone along the way, often for 10 or 15 minutes.
At the same time, others are arriving or coming back. There is constant activity which most non- Brazilian speakers would find distracting. It never stops. With over 3,000 in attendance last evening there was a constant hum of activity. It must be tough to remember that it's not personal, it's just cultural.
