About two blocks from the hotel, there is a Farmer's Market that sets up on a side street each morning. Everything is pretty much over and torn down by noon. I have no idea what time it starts in the morning other than early. Quite frankly my hatred of mornings is stronger than my curiosity so I anticipate that is one question that will remain unanswered
But I would think it would make for a very early start. They would have to load the trucks, drive into town and set up the stand for 7 or 8 in the morning, maybe earlier, and then tear everything back down. There is no evidence it even exists by 1 PM.
There are by my rough calculations about 80 vendors selling everything from garlic to pots and pans. That includes a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, many of which are completely unknown to me. And some sell more varieties of lentils than I knew existed and various kinds of flour.
The easiest vendors to find are the cheese vendors because you can smell them a block away. There are stacks of various cheeses and the variety makes for a unique aroma.
There are a few that have fresh meats for sale. I know that in many parts of the world, they think nothing of hanging meat in the open, even during the hottest parts of the day. That is probably something I could never adjust to.
Judging by the amount of booths and the produce for sale it must be quite popular.
There are several egg vendors and it is almost even split between chicken eggs and quail eggs. Quail eggs seem to be a common staple. All of the buffets I've eaten at have had them and I noticed in the supermarkets they are given equal shelf space. Which means I guess, that at the next one I'll have to try one. After all I've eaten several meats which I didn't recognize and had some very unusual tasting fruits which I didnt recognize. So what's a little quail egg.
