A couple of quick observations.
It's taken several days before I realized that every time I saw a police vehicle that it had it's lights flashing. The first few times I assumed they were pulling someone over. Tonight I noticed a number of them while walking over to the venue. All had their lights going but they didn't appear to actually be doing anything. I could be wrong but I assume that they continually have their lights on for a very simple reason: because they can.
Secondly, I think one of the toughest jobs must be translator. I have seen a number of people struggle in trying to translate for the speakers and workshop leaders. And often, by the questions asked, the meaning of the idea being expressed has been completely missed. And this goes both directions: English to Portuguese and vice versa.
But I had special sympathy for the translator tonight. The speaker was Portuguese and once he started he hardly took a breath. The poor translator could barely get a word in. I suspect we lost a lot of the meaning but it was the shortest message by far. And that is something to appreciate after a few days of long hours and many meetings.
