After leaving Carisbrooke this morning we travelled into Winton. Winton is known for dinosaurs, opals and waltzing matilda. We stopped and had a look at the Waltzing Matilda Centre, we also saw the Corfield and Fitzmaurice building - a general store building from 1916 in great condition. Josh and I spent three nights at Carisbrooke Station - located approximately 85km south west pf Winton. It's a working cattle station. Charlie and Penny are the owners - really nice people and their backyard is something special. On Sunday morning we left Mount Isa and headed to Diamantina National Park. Long straight stretches of road between plains - sometimes with red rock boulders. A very dry landscape. Had a bit of a scary moment when a nomad towing a large caravan decided he couldn't have his flacon touch the red dirt so he kept to the middle of the road which meant a swerve on an embankment for us. Yesterday we left Lawn Hill and headed to Mount Isa. It's about a 4 hour drive with the roads pretty much 50% dirt and 50% tar. Interesting little town. It's a mining town that also has a rodeo tradition - so lots of miners, a few cowboys, lots of utes/4WD, 4 or 5 steakhouse/bar and grills, alot of unit blocks and dongas. Josh and I spent 5 days at Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park. There isn't a word I can think of that describes Lawn Hill to do it justice. It is truly a beautiful and magical place. It's like being in the garden of eden. Amazing. It's a huge gorge with emerald green water surrounded by red rock cliffs.
