Greetings!
Well, this has been quite the week...not the least of which, it was my birthday week and my cast made it incredibly special, but more on that later.
We flew from Harrisburg, PA on Monday. Another long travel day but well worth it. Columbus, OH is a surprisingly great place. We're staying in a Hilton Residence Inn meaning incredible rooms with beautiful kitchens. The hotel used to be a bank and they've kept the lobby intact. The dining area is in the old vault. The reception's by the old depository. Lovely. That first night we took a trek into the Italian Village and went to Haiku, a lovely Asian restaurant -- www.haikupoeticfoodandart.com
Tuesday was a Golden Day (yay!) and we went to the Ohio State Fair!! I am a sucker for things like this. Games? Fair food? Crazy rides? I'm so there!! Sadly I was starting to feel under the weather...but we had a really great time. Lots of bad food. Darts & water gun games. A huge sheep exhibit (yup, I'm a sucker for animals). Had to sit out of the rides...sigh...but had fun watching my friends spin themselves nautious. We ended the day by buying matching KP & KP ON TOUR t-shirts. Pappas and I are now official!! (check out the pics and the newest video)
Wednesday was my birthday!! At this point I'm feeling really lousy, but I am not about to let this stop me from enjoying the day. We opened at the Southern Theater with a matinee. The audiences here have been small but mighty. Great opening here. That night I was told nothing about the plans, just to show up in the lobby ready for dinner and fun. So I show up...and all but 2 of our crew were there, including Bill Christopher and his wife Barbara! We went to dinner at the Spaghetti Factory. Jessica even got me an icre crem cake (my favorite) and brought it to the restaurant. Afterwards we went to the gorgeous Ohio Theater which shows movies during the summer...on the 5th it was REBECCA which is one of my favorites. It was a stunning theater and it had an organ player who was playing when we came in, and lowered in & out of the orchestra pit during interemission & after the show. It was an absolutely perfect day. Thank you so much to my incredible cast!! (especially Jessica, who planned the whole thing)
Thursday we went to see JULIE & JULIA, an absolutely delightful movie that I highly recommend. Maybe not the best written, but it really made me examine the scope of my life (wow...that sounds extremely dramatic...). And what's not to love about Meryl Streep and Amy Adams? Saturday...oof...Saturday my coughing got out of control. It was so bad during the matinee I had to leave the stage. I went to an urgent care between shows and got put on THREE perscriptions. The evening's show went much smoother...phew... We had another double today and now we're done in Columbus. Getting up at 4am tomorrow to fly to Elgin, IL for the week. Looking forward to seeing some great Chicago friends...
And that's all the news from Columbus, OH. Enjoy!
