Greetings!
I seem to be a lot better about getting up pictures than I do actual blogs. There's been a lot of excitement in the last 2 weeks!
The end of Madison was awesome. We discovered the Odd Wisconsin Museum...filled with, well, lots of odd stuff and interesting things that came from Wisconsin! Things such as the state's oldest piece of toast, pictures of a ladies band playing to cows so they'd produce more milk, soap that washes away fat and one-of-a-kind farming equipment. Oddly, it ended with a kitchen and living room...from the 1990s??? That wasn't so long ago folks! I did get excited that the living room held the game Mall Madness...a board game I always wanted. As well as an old-school Nintendo and TMNT action figures. Pretty accurate replicas. I just would have expected, oh, maybe, turn of the century? or 1950s? Yeah... Spent a stunning day walking around the town, admiring the college campus and the various waterfronts. We also went into a Luthern chapel...where they had guitars in the sanctuary AND fake flowers provided by the pastor's wife. It was our show come to life!!!
Instead of driving to Green Bay and having a day off there (in that...ummm...booming metropolis) we flipped our travel day and our day off, and took the day off in Madison. None of us wanted to say goodbye to Madison! Emily's nephew plays drums in a band, and they happened to be playing in Madison that night. So we took a group trip to the High Noon Saloon. Her nephew's band was awesome. The bar...lemme tell you, we saw every cross-section of personalities possible. Hard core rockers. Old guys with beer guts and serious chops. Girls decked out and large women with walkers. It was one of the oddest combination of people I have ever seen.
Then we got to Geen Bay. Wow. Green Bay...talk about a booming metropolis...what a depressing place!! Now, that being said, we did take an incredibe tour of Lambeau Field. It was maybe my most favorite field trip of tour so far. The hotel we stayed in was phenominal (I'm picking up Jessica's favorite saying). And the audiences...wow...We sold out every single show. It was at least a 1000 seat theater. They were the best audiences we have ever had, and probably will ever have. They loved every second and lept to their feet when it ended. All 4 shows. We had one guy show up in a Corn Palace t-shirt (a big joke in the show...I never knew what it was before...). I even had a boyfirend at one performance...an elderly gentleman who had his eyes on me the entrie curtain call, and when I smiled at him he blushed and had to look away. We were ready to say goodbye to Green Bay, but not to the audiences. They reconfirmed for me why I love this profession. To bring that kind of joy to people is...I'm not sure I even have words for it. Just makes me love my profession. The theater itself was also very cool in that it had stars on the cieling, which stayed lit during the night shows. The only way I knew we weren't at Hogwarts was that it stormed during our last show and it didn't rain in the theater. Pretty magical, though... :)
We got 2 days in Sheboygan, WI. Incredible hotel. An incredible farmer's market (which sold KOHLRABI everywhere!!! My dad deided to grow kohlrabi this year. None of us knew what to do with it. Apparently, they know what to do with it in Wisconsin!!). And the lovliest people at the theater. They provided us with food both before and between shows. They thanked us every chance they could. And they had a s***zhu named Charlie who is the most incredible dog I've encountered since my puppy passed. We all fell in love.
We're now in Jefferson City, MO. Spent a great day touring the Governor's Mansion (with our wonderful tour guide, Sally) and the Capitol Building. Our hotel is fine...not as special as our past suites, but I had a special situation with my first room (I had a VERY special hapicapped shower that would be fine for a night but not for a week) and the manager Nathan was a gem in helping me out.
And I have to give a very special thank you to my friend Marissa, who sent me a very special belated birthday present and made me cry. So thank you.
I think this week in Jefferson City is going to be pretty great. Apparently the venue is beautiful...and on Friday we're being thrown both a luncheon and a party post-show. We'll see what the week holds...
Enjoy!
