Greetings!
Well, only just got to Elgin, but there's been plenty of craziness. Our travel day was Monday and wow what a day. We met in the hotel lobby at 5am for a 7am flight. We were supposed to fly from Columbus to Detroit, then connect from there on to Chicago O'Hare. Sounds so simple... The first snag came when we were going through security. On my birthday, Emily (our CM) had put a large kitchen knife in her bag for the purposes of cutting my cake. We eneded up not using the knife. Emily forgot it was there...but the security guards found it. And they had a field day with this. Clearly Emily was not threat, but they had to go through all of her belongings and make sure there was nothing else dangerous. Quite the way to start...
Plane #1 for Detroit took off...but not 10 minutes in we were told a flap hadn't been closed while on the ground, the noise was too loud in the cockpit and we were turning around and flying back to Columbus. Hmm...a flap hadn't been closed? We assumed there was some wort of engine problem and the flight crew didn't want to cause panic. Anyway, 20 minutes later we found ourselves back in the Columbus airport. We were told we could get a direct flight to Chicago, but it would be via American Airlines (we had been flying Delta) and exiting the terminal, rechecking in and going through security again into another terminal. After some confusion with bags and flights (too much to get into) we made it to the new gate just before boarding. Took the new direct flight to Chicago, and landed about when flight #2 from Detroit would have. However, now our bags were no where to be found. We each had to describe our suitcases to AA baggage officials, including recognizable belongings in them. Between the four of us we had: 2 teddy bears, a pocket Bible, sheet music, How To Speak Luthern, a LeBron James bobble head and several bottles of wine. Do we know how to travel or what?! The suitcases were delievered to our hotel around 3AM that night. Thank you American Airlines!!
The rest of our time hasn't been quite as eventful. I did get to see my incredible friend Sarah White (a fellow Girl's Night lady)...a very nice afternoon after such a crazy travel morning. We had our opening matinee today at the Hemmens Cultural Center. It is a HUGE house. We were pretty much packed today...all old, church-going bus groups. Needless to say, they loved it. Here's hoping this is a sign for the rest of the week here in Elgin!
Enjoy!
