Greetings!
Well, I'm quarantined in my room for the day...I seem to have gotten what's been going through the whole cast...it's coming on for the past week, but I seem to have the worst of it on a golden day...both a good and a bad thing!
The last week has been an interesting one. We only had 3 shows: Socorro, NM - Stillwater, OK - Alma, AR.
Socorro, NM... Why is it our small audiences in remote towns are always the best? We could have walked out on a bare stage, given a terrible performance, and they still would've loved us. Somewhat refreshing after performing in places like Thousand Oaks with silent audiences. Not sure I'm a huge fan of New Mexico. Extremely barren, but not as beautiful as something like Arizona. We were only there for one night, so maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. We'll be back May...maybe I'll be able to get a different impression then...
Stillwater, OK... Wow...this venue was hopefully as barebones as it gets. We performed in a community center. We had pretty much no set (the stage was just too small). We had no backdrops b/c the ceiling couldn't take the weight. There were no dressing rooms...instead of doing load in (since there was no set to load in) the crew turned a large room into one big dressing room for all of us. And there was no pit, so the band played in a room off the stage with Scott (our MD) in onstage screens so we could follow... On the plus side, the people were incredibly nice and appreciative. They gave us the best catered meal we've had so far. This is also the venue where we got our show jackets/hoodies...and this is where Amanda went on as Ariel (my daughter) and she did an incredible job! Way to go, Amanda!! (this whole cast is sick...Lindsay's had it for a week and a half and finally called out...I'm hoping I can just plow through it...)
Alma, AK... We drove through a ghost town, only to find this stunning HIGH SCHOOL auditorium. It was huge and gorgeous. Everyone was back in the show. However, this was maybe the scariest show I've ever done...My head has been clogged, it moved to my ears, and I could hear nothing. Nothing. I had no idea if I was on pitch, in tempo, anything. Apparently it sounded fine, but this was almost as scary as driving through the blizzard...thank god my ears have cleared up!!
In between Socorro and Stillwater, we had a night off in Amarillo, TX where some of our cast hosted a Murder Mystery Party. So much fun! I was a little disappointed not to be the murderer, but maybe next time...when I was a kid, my mom would write these incredible murder mysteries for my brother's and my birthdays. Took me back... :)
And now we're in Memphis. Got here yesterday and had a great night out on Beale Street. A little wierd to be here on a Sunday night because it was pretty much empty...just meant we had the run of the place to ourselves! I've been here a couple of times, but it's always a good time. The cast made a trip to Graceland today, but I've already been and, well, I'm in quarantine...
Enjoy!
