Greetings!
Sitting in another amazing hotel in Madison, WI. No kitchen in the room this time, but a beautiful view of the water, and an incredible pool/gym that we're taking full advantage of. We've even made friends with the security guard, who lets us stay in the hot tub after closing... :) Madison is quickly turning into one of my favorite tour stops. The theater's fantastic. The town is beautiful and has every type of food imaginable. Plus, Wisconsin audiences are the best. I have found this with almost every tour, but this show is made for them. We had people in the audience last night who were laughing so hard they were crying. There were even women who came last night dressed up like church basement ladies, complete with a pastor in tow!
I feel the need to explain a little bit about this show...It's a little but like doing a sitcom. When we hit the right audience in the right demographic the show gets put on hold from the laughter. We've even had some audiences feel the need to respond audibly. Mrs. Snustad enters the stage with Wonder Bread bags on her feet...the other night a lady practically shouted over the laughter "I had those!" There's a gag bit with lasagna where it's mis-pronounced...almost every night you hear people in the audience say it back. But my favorite was a 1-night occurance that happened back in Harrisburg. Mrs. Snustad has a speech about how much the church is changing and how sad it makes her. She got to the end with the line "Everyone likes all this...but me" to which some elderly person shouted out "I don't!" I thought we were going to have to end the show or at least acknowledge whoever said it. We couldn't help but laugh right along with the audience. It was probably about a minute before we could even attempt carrying on with the show. It is the most fun I've had on stage in years.
We have 4 days and 4 shows left here and I plan on enjoying every second! So far we've eaten some great food, made a trip to the Olbrich Botanical Gardens (http://www.olbrich.org/) and had a great visit with Karen's and my friend Nathan Albert (Thanks for making the trip out, Nathan! The boy drove over 2 hours...!!). And, of course, gotten in plenty of pool/spa time. Not sure what the rest of the week holds but I'm ready for it!
Enjoy!
