Greetings!
Well, we somehow survived the month of January. Talk about a rough month. A LONG string of bus nights. In the middle of that stretch, we got an unexpected night in a hotel due to a snow white-out (in middle-of-nowhere South Dakota)...but it meant the next day we did 16 hours on the bus... A lot of school auditoriums. Only one Golden Day (day off with no show or travel). You get the idea...
So far, February has been MUCH kinder: We've stayed in one hotel for 5 nights (unheard of!!). Tonawanda, NY has been an awesome house to play. It's a stunning theater and the audiences really appreciated us. It's home to the Mighty Wurlitzer - a gorgous old organ, that they were kind enough to play for us as our pre-show music. We just had two Golden Days (yippee!!)... Yesterday Karen, Jean, Lisa (with her friend Erik) and I took a little road trip. Started the day driving up to Niagara Falls, Canada. It was stunning. I performed there in May of 2007 so I know it in the spring. Seeing it in the winter...it was unreal. Magical. An entirely different place. While there we played in the arcade, rode up the Skylon Tower and rode the ferris wheel. Felt like big kids! After that, we drove to Buffalo to go Anchor Bar - home of the original Buffalo Wings. AMAZING!!!! And I'm not a huge wings fan, but these were worth the trip. In the evening, we attended Eyecandy Burlesque... Now, I've been to good bulesque, as in they were capturing the ART form that was Burlesque. Ummm...this fell more than short...turns out it was a class that was putting on their "show." Our little group got an unexpectedly good laugh and good time. Today was Superbowl. Pappas is a huge Cols fan, so we were a loud minority at the Roadhouse Grill cheering on the Colts...even given their loss, we had a great time out.
We did have two unexpectedly great meals. Lander, WY is a surprisingly cute town in the mountains. And in this town is the Lander Bar & Gannet Grill. We had the freshest food and THE best local brews any of us has had in a long time. If ever you're there, be sure to check it out: www.landerbar.com Then just a few days ago, Karen & I happened upon a gem of a place called Onyx Restaurant. Possibly the best meal we've had on tour in a year. Mediterranean/Middle Eastern and so fresh we gave compliments to the owner. If only we could go back!! They're new and don't have a website up yet, but if you're in the Buffalo area I highly recommend it.
Posted more than enough pics from Niagara Falls, plus some "Burlesque" and other odds & ends. Enjoy!
