Greetings!
This is a clear example of why I need to write on hre more often...the last 2 weeks have been something!
Started in Ithaca, NY. We stayed at an absolutely stunning hotel called La Tourelle Resort & Spa. Every now and then we get a pampering experience...this was one of them. The rooms were dreamy. The spa provided incredible relaxation. We took a stunning walk through the snowy woods abutting the grounds. Plus a complimentary wine tasting of Finger Lakes Wine Region wines that turned into bottles and bottles of free wine. Thank you La Tourelle!! http://www.latourelle.com/ Ithaca was a special location for me, given theat I've spent several summers in that area performing at Cortland Rep. Had lunch with Rona & Ingrid, two lovely ladies Jan and I know from CRT. We ate at a charming restaruant called Simeon's... I HIGHLY recommend their carrot cake dessert shooter. I'll go so far as to give it 5 STARS www.simeonsithaca.com Then spent the afternoon with my incredible friend Rob Lescarbeau (also from CRT) who drove almost 2 hours to come see me. Thanks Rob!!! :)
Next stop - Sandusky, OH. Sadly in the winter, there's really not much to do there. We had a golden day, but the most exciting thing we did was have dinner at Friendly's and drinks at a Mexican place. It is home to Cedar Point Amusement Park...but it's closed in the winter. And there are multiple indoor waterparks (we hit one up on FOOTLOOSE) but they were too far away to get to. Thank you, Sandusky...... Valentine's Day was spent in Madisonville, KY. Karen & I were each other Valentine's and we took ourselves out to a local bar...turned out to be a smokey, redneck honky-tonk. What a special, special way to celebrate VDay!! We actually had a great time. Somehow KP and I can have fun anywhere...
Next stop: Gettysburg, PA. What a great stop! Not only is it a wonderful town with a pretty theater, but we had 2 golden days. Such a treat. The first day off we took to just relax, then the cast ladies took a walk and went to dinner at the historic Dobbin House. I highly recommend it. There's a formal dining room upstairs, but there's a casual pub downstairs which we opted for. Still authentic with great food http://www.dobbinhouse.com/ Our second day off we took a group trip over to the Gettysburg Civil War Museum right off the battlefields. Incredible. I've been before, but the museaum has been revamped in the past 2 years since I've been there and they now have Cyclorama - it's a gigantic 42 ft high, 360-degree painting in the round of the Battle, complete with lights & audio. The mural is expanded out onto the floor so you can't tell what's painted vs. what's real. Just stunning. http://www.gettysburgfoundation.org/cyclorama.htm That evening we went to see "Precious" - if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. Incredible movie. Very powerful.
After a night in Wye Mills, MD and a night in Williamsport, PA (with a very cool microbrew called the Bullfrog Brewery), we started heading back to Maryland around Midnight...when our bus broke down. Yup, that's right. OUR BUS BROKE DOWN. On the side of the road. We sat for almost 4 hours while trying to figure out if we could even make it to tour next show, if we would stay the night or try and find rental cars. Etc. Etc. FInally around 4AM the crew drove out on the truck with Chuck and went straight to the theater to do load-in (they're my heroes). The cast drove in a mini-van (provided by the prior night's theater) to our next hotel in Frederick, MD, were we got in about 3 hours of sleep before heading into a matinee. Thank goodness the drive was only about 3.5 hours. It was quite a night.
And now I think I'm all caught up...phew...that was just the last 2 weeks!! Tour is proving to be something of an adventure...take a look at all the pictures. Plenty to look at...!!
Enjoy!
