Tapas & Discipline!! Today's class was all about Discipline - something that I have been lucky enough to have instilled in me since a child from my parents. My mind unfortunately was all over the place again - specially thinking about what I might do now if I don't go straight to Mazunte and also the fact I need to put on some weight as I have been wasting away on the vegan diet. I started the day with a huge bowl of porridge, fruits and nuts and felt energized and ready for meditation. Class was full today and there was a nice energy in the group but once again I found it hard to quiet my monkey mind. Moving into Yoga practice I felt my body was weak and tired and so my mind wondered even more - just when you think you can control the incessant thoughts they sneak their way back in and start harassing you with even more force. When it came to the end of the session and our relaxation practice I almost fell asleep which signaled that yeah the body and mind are tired. Today's lecture was about Tapas 'discipline' - setting ourselfs little goals and focusing on achieving them. For those that know me I am a very disciplined person but this can be a curse as I often get so caught up in the discipline of the act, the pride involved (of the ego) that things I do become mechanical. I actually need to work on letting go a bit more and going with the flow; not being so strict on myself. Either way today's lecture was very informative and relevant and I set a few little tapas for my last week here - one being the daily meditation practice. The meditation has been my greatest took here and has brought so much space and awareness into my life and I want it to be part of my daily practice. Once again we have beautiful weather so after lunch and a chat with Elizabeth I headed to the dock for some sunshine and thinking. It was really got today and after just 1 hour the heat had got to be so I went for a short walk. I ran into our teacher Jennifer and chatted with her a while whilst eating some delicious chocolate chip biscuit she had just brought. A few others from our yoga group then came and joined us and we hung-out chatting for a while. The rest of the afternoon I did some thinking about where my next travel move might be and reading. Unfortunately the few books I have started reading havnt been overly engaging and I have lost desire to continue reading them - time to get some reading recommendations.
I have been making lentil, potato and vegetable soup for dinner the last few nights and the stuff is great for not only keeping me warm at night but allowing me to sleep well.
