Today I had not much to do except to wait around until Xavier finished work - say my goodbyes and make my way to the bus terminal and back to Puerto Montt. I got up and said goodbye to the girls and then sat around for a while trying to warm-up before taking the dogs to the beach for one last walk. It was cold again today and to tell you the truth I have had enough of this horribly bitter weather. The other two Couchsurfers woke up around midday so I chatted with them for a bit before Xavier arrived home. I cooked everyone lunch: my now semi-famous Soy meat, egg and ratatouille dish. When I was about to leave Xavier asked me to contribute some money for the Asado and the Curanto we had eaten on New Years Eve and New Years Day about $20. I thought this was a little steep considering I had been the one helping and doing all the work setting everything up but on the other hand they had let me into their home for 6 days so it was really the least I could contribute and I now feel bad that I nearly left having not contributed anything. I hitchhiked into town and luckily the first car I flagged down gave me a lift all the way to the bus station. I was once again lucky and got the last seat on the bus heading to Puerto Montt - the bus took about 3 hours and I arrived in Puerto Montt much earlier then expected. I took another bus out to Karina's and then started the 20 minute walk out to the house, after about 5 minutes a lovely young couple picked me up and gave me a lift to the house (Chilean Hospitality). Unfortunately Karina was not at home yet but I had access to her Internet which kept me occupied for the next hour whilst I waited. We had organized to cook Pastel de Choclo tonight seen as I had cooked last time I was at Karina's; so whilst I showered Karina went to the shops and brought the ingredients. She had also invited 5 friends that might or might not come so we had to make a lot - it was getting late so I started preparing everything as to feed 7 people I would need a lot more of everything. When Karina arrived back she said her friends were not coming so I started preparing just for us only to 1 hour later find out the friends were coming - so I ended up cooking everything as I was supposed to teach Karina but she was preoccupied. The friends came over and were unfortunately in a rush (they had to drive 1.5 hours back to their hometown) which made it very difficult as I was waiting for the corn pies to cook in the oven. I made a huge salad as we didn't really have enough pies as they weren't coming and they all of a sudden did etc; anyways the night went really well and they all loved my Pastel de Choclo. And for some of the friends they had never eaten Chiles National Dish: Pastel de Choclo (corn pie) and hear they were trying it for the first time and made by an Australian. I was absolutely b*****ed by the time I had finished cooking and serving and what was supposed to be a relaxing night turned into a 2am finish but nice that they all appreciated it specially Karina; who has been so kind to me.
