Today we were supposed to be up at 6:30am ready for our hiking trip but the others struggled a bit and it wasn't until 7am we managed to have everybody up and ready for breakfast. It was 8:30am before we finally got everything ready and loaded in the car ready to go. The drive out to Osorno Volcano took nearly two hours and I managed to get a little more sleep on the way out which was nice. Arriving to the park we were met by a turquoise coloured lake crossing into Argentina and the mighty Osorno Volcano. We signed in waited for the girls to use the toilets and then started the 6 hour trek. There were these ginormous Horse Flies that were swarming all over us and it was driving the Russian Couchsurfer: Sergay absolutely mad - it was actually quite comical. The walk started off quite flat and through some beautiful lush green Forrest and vegetation, the floor was all black from the lava from the volcano - quite contrasting. After about 4km we came to a split in the road where we took a left and headed up the side of the Volcano - here the hike started to get a little tougher with the lava rocks proving quite difficult to walk on. The others were steaming ahead and I couldn't help but request to slow down and enjoy the scenery a bit more. We slowed a little but the girls wanted to make it to the midway point so we could take some pics and stop for lunch. We eventually made it and got our photos but agreed it was better to trek down a little to where the view was a bit better and enjoy our lunch. We stopped for about an hour and had a really nice picnic lunch of sandwiches, boiled eggs, salad, fruits and cookies. It was almost 3pm when we decided to head back down and for some reason I had completely lost all my energy and the next 2.5 hours hiking down proved quiet difficult. To go with the tired factor the rocks were very slippery and my knees and ankles were failing me so I had to take it extra slow. We eventually made it back in what seemed like an eternity and after the girls used the bathroom we made out way back to Puerto Montt. We had to take Sally straight to the airport as she had a flight back to Santiago; after dropping her off we went to the fruit and vegetable market so that myself and Anna could buy the ingredients to cook our typical national dishes. I brought everything necessary to make my Tortilla Australianus and Anna brought a bunch of vegetables so she could make a Russian vegetable soup called Borsh. When we arrived back we took straight to the kitchen whilst Karina and Sergey rested we slaved away in the kitchen and after 4 hours everything was finally ready. Anna's Borsh basically consisted of cabbage, onion, garlic, tomato, bettroot and potatoes - some fried and then slowly boiled to produce a sweet soup - it was very good and very simple and would be perfect for a cold winters day.
