My last full day in Puerto Montt and the sun is shining. I didn't really have much to do today so I read a few guide books and did some research on Patagonia before heading off for a walk around Pelluco. I found this really nice trail that lead up to some rural farm land, through animal keeps and ended in a huge fruit orchard. I had organized with Karina to go either for another walk or visit one of the nearby towns after she finished work but unfortunately she got held back late and didn't arrive back until around 7pm. It was Karina's turn to cook tonight and on the menu was two traditional Chilean dishes: Tomatican - slow steamed beef back straps with onion, tomato and hard corn and for dessert: Turron de Vino - whipped Marang infused with sweet red wine caramel and covered in walnuts. At around 10pm the aromas of the cooking were filling the house and we were both getting very hungry. Karina served and wow what a delightful treat - very similar to Peru's Lomo Saltado just with a healthier and more timely way of cooking. I also tried the dessert which was delicious but decided it would be better left for breakfast.
