Hi all
I haven’t written a journal entry for a while as my first few weeks in Oz have been a bit weird to say the least. It was a total culture shock when I arrived as I had left gorgeous, idyllic Bali - which is so laid back and so chilled, and arrived in Sydney – a busy city where people are a bit rude and not helpful at all. The worst part was the first hostel I stayed in, City Central Backpackers. I chose it because they said I could stay in an all girls dorm and that there was a lift. I got there and they had messed up the booking so I was stuck in a room with 3 German lads who didn’t (or should I say wouldn’t) speak English. The lift was broken most of the time and the bathroom was an accident just waiting to happen. I wasn’t impressed, and I had paid for 3 nights so I had to stay there.
I finally managed to get a new plaster cast, I had to wait until Tuesday, 5 days after I first went in as the doctor wasn’t available until then – and this was the emergency department I went to! Anyway, as soon as I could I decided to get out of the city and head for Bondi beach. I put most of my stuff in storage and just took 1 small rucksack and jumped on the first bus to the beach. I moved into a hostel called Indy’s Backpackers. It was much nicer than the other one, very friendly and very funky. It was a bit of a party hostel as they arranged different activities every night, like Tequila night and Punch night and shots night – well you get the drift. Needless to say I didn’t get much sleep that week and drank far too much. I met a girl called Cathryn who is from Blackburn and a lad called Dan who is from St Helens and I have been traveling with them ever since. We have had such a laugh, but we decided to move to Coogee which is a beach just down from Bondi as Indy’s was getting a bit too much for us. Coogee is lovely, like a smaller, classier version of Bondi. It is a lot more lively at night and then chilled out during the day, which is just what you want really. We have moved into a hostel called Wizard Of Oz Backpackers and I absolutely love it. We’ve got a really nice room, there is a living room with TV, DVD and huge back garden complete with Barbeque and everyone is great. We’ve made so many good friends already that we have decided to stay until after New Year. The best news is that we have just secured VIP tickets to the best New Year’s Eve Party in Sydney – Pacha at Home Nightclub – which is about as close to the fireworks as you can get right on the Harbour. We have got roof top tickets so we will see all the fireworks and there are loads of top DJ’s playing – can’t wait. Anyway I have probably missed loads out so will have to keep on top of my journal from now on, especially since my cast came off yesterday and I am well on the road to recovery. I even went swimming in the sea today for the first time since the accident, just wait till this time next week – should be back up to full speed and can then finally go sight seeing! Lots of Love Jules x x x
