Hi all,
So on to New Year's Eve. Well, it actually began on the 30th for me and Cathryn as we decided to go for a girly New year's Eve Eve night out in the city. We went to the Harbour for dusk and watched as the city lit up ready for the evening. It really is an awsome sight and the bridge and opera house look even better at night (see photo's). We started to get really excited as we saw the bridge with a huge question mark all lit up. we decided that the quesiton mark meant - 'what is going to happen tomorrow night?' or something like that. After working up an appetite strolling round the harbour we went to Waggamama's on Oxford street for some gorgeous (and cheap) food and wine. After there we decided to go for a drink and ended up in a gay bar, well there isn't much else on Oxford St, and it was really cool, the music was good and we got chatting to the obligatory drag queens. Soon realiseing that we had spent over a couple of hours out of Coogee we quickly headed back before we started to get nose bleeds. I must admit, we both cheered 'home' when we saw the bus with Coogee beach on it arrive! (we have been here far too long!). So off to bed, big day tomorrow......
We all woke up pretty early as everyone was excited about their plans for the night. Everyone had different plans so while people were running round trying to find outfits to wear and making packed lunches me, Cathryn, Dan and Lou decided that the beach was a good idea, I was getting way to over-excited and really needed to chill out! We already had our night sorted so what better way to warm up for the festivities than to chill out and catch some rays. Some of the guys were going to Lavender Bay to watch the Harbour Bridge fireworks so theyleft early to get the ferry over - armed with packed lunches and enough alcohol for the whole of Sydney to get drunk! We got ready (I had my usual stress - but this time not 'hair won't do' but 'make-up is all wrong'! So decided less is more was the way forward. We had couple in the hostel and then headed into the city at about 5pm. We got to Darling harbour and it was already buzzing. There were so many people there already all milling around trying to find the best spot to watch the fireworks (won't be as good as ours, ha ha). There were stages being set up, boats ready to set sail and camera's at the ready. We headed to the nearest bar and sat sipping Cosmopolitans beside the harbour (was like something out of Sex and the City - well, not really but it was very nice! After a few more drinks we decided to head over to Pacha at Home nightclub as it opened at 8 and we wanted our free champagne! we were all so excited in the queue and couldn't get up the stairs to the roof top quick enough! We got a good spot right at the front and could see all across the Harbour. We drank champagne and took photo's while we waited for the 9 0'clock fireworks.
The fireworks were absolutley amazing, they went off for about half an hour, we were all gob-smacked by how spectacular they were. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better they started to play 'Lucy's in the Sky with Diamonds' as the grand finale was going off - it was perfect. I have videoed most of it and once I have worked out u-tube website I will send it to all you unlucky lot who couldn't be there - ignore me in the background, I say 'oh my god' about a million times - I need a new catchphrase!
After the fireworks we went inside and danced the night away to Sarah Main, the Body Rockers and Darren Emerson. The Body Rockers were fantastic, they gave a quality performance, they were definately one of the highlights of the night. We watched the midnight fireworks and they were amazing too, the roof top was a bit more packed this time and we were a little bit more tiddly by this point, so I have to admit the 9 o' clock fireworks were much more memorable! We danced all night and drank champagne till about 4am and then decided to head back to Coogee as we and the rest of the hostel and arranged to meet on Coogee beach for the first sunrise of the year. It was great as practically everyone was there, (some didn't make it that long), drink in hand ready for sunrise. It was great watching the first sunrise of the year on the beach with all your friends.........it soon got very cold and so we headed back to the hostelfor more celebrating.
After watching the funniest video of two of the lads on a rollercoaster in Lunar Park (theme park on the harbour) we decided to head to bed, well it was about 9am! It was the best New Year and actually on the best nights out I have ever had, it's gonna take some beating......
P.S. I have the rollercoaster video on email, I send to you lot at home, you have to have the sound up, it is one of the funniest things I've seen!
Lots of Love
