Hi all,
Well it has been hectic to say the least! Not the usual kind of hectic that we have at home around the festive period. No Christmas shopping to do, no office Christmas parties and no wondering what you're gong to wear for this do and that day! There was so much to do here at Christmas that didn't involve any of those things.......
Leading up to Christmas I managed to get a brill job working in a cute little clothes boutique right across the road from the hostel. It paid well and I got to wear the clothes out of the shop, since my backpack mainly consists of bikini's, shorts and vests! This job is right up my street! I managed to earn enough money to cover me for the festive period which was good because we had so much planned. Also, alot of my friends whom I met in Bali arrived in Sydney and decided that the Wizard in Coogee was the only place to be - and they weren't wrong! So Mike, Kate, Will and Rob all checked in and joined in the fun at the Wizard of Oz. So many crazy things have happened at the hostel like Marsh getting a 'golden shower' from the lad in the bunk bed above (this is nothing - Rich as been peed on twice - by the same person!), some of the lads almost getting arrested just for playing Kirby in the street - Oz police really don't understand Kirby! And a guy we have named 'Tree man', cos that's all he talks about, trying to get into bed with Gary when he was drunk! So many other stories but too many mention as I have been naughty and not kept up to date with my journal!
Anyway, on to Christmas - it was fantastic - but didn't feel like Christmas at all! It all kicked off with a xmas party at Shona's house - that's the scary house on the hill in my photo's. We all went up and sang xmas songs all night and drank egg nog, finally it's starting to feel like xmas. Then on to Christmas eve, practically all of the hostel went out together. We had a few drinks in the Wizard and then off to the Coogee Bay Hotel (CBH). By about midnight everyone was smashed and as usual the Ozzie bouncers had to spoil the fun - they are so strict over here, and so they decided to not just throw one or two of us out - they threw us all out, obviously cos we were having too much fun. So back to the Wizard for Christmas music and dancing around the xmas tree like crazy people! Everyone had at least 1 present to open so we did all together it was like one big family xmas - and I don't really remember much after that.......woke up to the smell of BBQ on xmas morning and Carl ( the govner ) was cooking us all a fry up on the barbie. Nothing but that would have got me out of bed at 10am - so with my sunnies on, wrapped in tinsel and wearing reindeer ears off I went for some eggs and bacon! Feeling much better after fry up + bucks fizz + a few shots of Brandy + cider - well it's tradiiton apparently, and who am I to go against tradition, we set off to Bondi - well it would have been rude not to. It was just how I imangined it - gorgeous beach, gorgeous weather and full of English/Irish all wishing each other a Merry Christmas. There were surfers wearing santa hats, lifeguards draped in tinsel and a Santa on a Jet Ski! We spent the day sunbathing, eating and pulling crackers - the best thing was that gatecrasher was on and we could hear the music on the beach - wicked. And just when you think the world is a huge place who do I see on the beach - our Miffy! It was good to catch up and agree that Oz can turn you into an alcoholic! Hope you had a crackin New Year Miff, even with acute bronchitus, hope to see you again on the way round.
So it got to tea time and we decided to do the Bondi to Coogee walk. It's a coastel walk that takes about 1 hour and you get to see all the beaches and cliffs of the towns in between Bondi and Coogee. It was gorgeous, the views were fantastic and we had such a laugh on the way but I've got to say - I was absolutley knackered by the time we got to Coogee - aka home! We were all starving and, with no crimbo dinner for us orphans, we decided to go for the next best thing - curry all round! With some beer in the fridge we all spent xmas night watching xmas films in front of the xmas tree and having a few cheeky ones.
It was a great xmas, even though it didn't feel like christmas, I'll never forget it. Boxing Day was mostly spent recovering from the last few days, not a hard job really when you can just chill on the beach! Even though I'm in Oz I was still gutted that I couldn't go out in Wigan and get dressed up - I tried to incite the hostel folk to join in the Wigan tradition, but with no joy, Mandi - I hope you had the best night chick, I will be there with bells on next year x So on to New Year - it's gonna be a good one......
Lots of love Jules xxx
