G'day everybody! I absolutely love Australia, I've already decided to emigrate here for a few years. Anybody want to join me?
I started in Cairns, a gateway to all the good stuff in northern queensland. Anyone around here has to do Uncle Brian's day tour. I headed out into the rainforest and the tablelands, stopping for rock sliding into a stunning secluded pool at Josephine Falls. Later we swam at Millaa Millaa Falls, the waterfall where the original timotei advert was filmed. I didn't quite have the hair to recreate it... Our final swim spot was in a giant volcanic crater lake. Three incredible swimming spots in one day!
I headed up to Cape Tribulation for a few days, where two world heritage sites collide: the rainforest and the reef. The beaches are untouched and there were some terrific trails through the rainforest. Swimming wasn't on the cards as there were crocodiles in the estuaries. I also kept my eye out for the cassowary, an endangered ostrich like bird that runs around the rainforest. They're passive but have been known to charge and disembowel you with their claws. Good job I didn't see one... I also went horse riding through the surf and the rainforest which was unbelievable, they even had us cantering through the fields by the end. My horse Ringer was a bit infatuated with the horse infront though and kept chewing his tail... We did spot some juvenile crocs in the Daintree River but no monster adults.
Finally up in Cairns, I headed out to the Barrier Reef for three dives in a day. I've never seen anything like it. The first dive, within ten minutes, I was a metre away from a turtle munching on the coral and he didn't seem to mind us all gawping at him. We then spotted more turtles, schools of barracuda and a white tipped reef shark sleeping on the bottom. During the final dive a shark actually swam past me which was incredible. They're harmless don't worry...
