I've been slack updating this, apologies everybody!
I made it to Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsundays and boarded a sailing catamaran called Pacific Star for a 3 day 3 night trip sailing the whitsundays and the outer great barrier reef. It was such a good laugh. We stopped off at Whitehaven Beach, contender for best beach I've ever set foot on and lounged around there. Sailing round the Whitsundays was incredible, once your stomach had got used to it. I was lucky enough to do two dives out on the outer reef. The conditions were pretty choppy, but after half drowning on the surface, everything was fine underneath! In fact a baby shark swam past as soon as I hit the bottom.
The snorkelling was something else, manta rays and beautiful coral. Fortunately the recently spotted saltwater crocodile in the are didn't put in an appearance when we were snorkelling. We were even lucky enough to have a trio of dolphins come and swim round our boat as night fell on the last night. And somehow our cook on board rustled up a roast dinner in a galley the size of a shoebox. My first roast in nearly five months!
After some celebratory drinks, headed south on an overnight greyhound to Rockhampton to catch a ferry to Great Keppel Island. The place was practically deserted so I had the bushwalking trails and beaches all to myself. A perfect place to chill back on solid land!
Read on for more adventures...
