I managed to get 'stuck' in a tiny town called Town 1770 for nearly a week. My hostl Cool Bananas is hands down the greatest place I've stayed on my trip. So laid back, clean as anything, hammocks and the best bunch of people. The beach was on our doorstep and is the most northerly point for surfing on the east coast. I signed up for cheap surf lessons and am now a bit hooked. I was standing by the end of the lesson, but we were started on mini-waves! I spent the next few days doing very little except surfing, chilling round the resident camp fire with mates and finding houseparties in this small town. It is an impossible place to leave!
I dragged myself away finally and headed down to Hervey Bay, a juumping off point for Fraser Island, largest sand island on the planet. This place is spectacular. The main beach (called 75 mile beach even though it isn't) is perfect for 4x4 trucks to rocket down. There are some incredible swimming spots, especially Lake Birabeen and the Champagne Pools and even a shipwreck on the beach. I avoided getting eaten by dingos and could easily have spent a week there.
I'm now in Noosa, a very chilled place north of brisbane. There's a national park and a beach on my doorstep so I'm content. Mind you my coastal trail yesterday did finish on a nudist beach which I didn't expect! I've been attempting to surf again today but the waves are bigger here so I've taken a pounding. Such a hard life...
Heading to Brisbane tomorrow for a couple of nights and then onto Byron Bay. And I'm getting slaughtered by the locals about the football. Whate the hell happened!
