Day 121 (Friday 16th February 2007)
Danny boy had an 'R.T.O.' (some excuse for a day off) so once Marc finally got out of bed, we popped into the city to meet Ria for lunch...good old 'Billy Baxters'!
We returned home to watch New Zealand well and truly smash Australia in the first Chappell-Hadley Trophy match. It's great watching the Aussies lose. Is this the end of an era?
Dan's brother Shane came round for a bit, before Marc joined Dan on his third trip down to the city to pick up Ria from work.
With the big day tomorrow, Ria and Dan decided to have a nice easy one that night, so we ordered a Chinese takeaway and 'The Fast and the Furious - Tokyo Drift' on the 'Foxtel' box office. As can be expected by the title, the film was every bit as bad as it sounds! I'm sure there's plenty of braindead, knuckleheads out there (Monty, Tubes...) that enjoy a collection of clips of fast cars, bimbos and Lil' Bow Wow shamelessly masquerading under the title of a film, but for Marc, the only drifting to be done was by him...asleep!!
Marc gave in and let Ria and Dan open their engagement pressie, a framed photo of them both (and that bloody cat). They seemed pretty made up and we all turned ourselves in. The heat was bordering on rediculous and Marc tossed and turned all night long. Great...it's going to 40°C tomorrow!!!!
Back At The Farm
Well last night was the final straw! As much as I love Noosa, I could no longer handle living the trailer park trash lifestyle!
I was happily drifting off to sleep when I felt something run across my face! I jumped up, narrowly missing my head on the stupid cupboards that go round the top of bed, and in the dark I could see what looked like a humungous spider sitting on my pillow!! I flicked on the light...and there sat a friggin Cockroache!! A cockroache that had just runa cross my face!! That is just taking things too far!
I didn't know what the hell I was going to do with it but I knew it was not going to stay there. So I grabbed a glass and managed to catch the dam thing. I just about got it on to the floor under the glass where it stayed all night!
After that little drama, I got up in the morning and phoned David to say I was coming back a bit early. They were all still in NSW for the show, so he said to let myself in and they would be back late Sunday. So, I packed up my things and headed away from the drongo's, pikeys and flamin cockroaches!
I have never seen rain so heavy and most of the way back the highway was crawling at about 40k. Even then it was nearly impossable to see out of the windowscreen
Day 122 (Saturday 17th February 2007) Ria and Dan's Engagement Party
Today Adelaide was the hottest place in the whole of Australia, even Uluru!! Excellent day for an engagement party then...!
Ria was up and off early to get her nails done with her friend Jess. Marc finally gave up any hope of sleeping in this crazy heat and surfaced at around 10:30. He and Dan popped down the 'bottle shop' for some beers and other alcoholic beverages. Ria and Jess had briefly returned, but were now getting their hair and make-up done somewhere else.
As the afternoon rolled on, the crowd rolled up. Jess's other half Geoff (a proper bikey) was first to arrive, followed by Amy and Mark, Mandy and Brook and Shanos. The girls were finally ready and we all piled into three taxis.
No taxi drivers in Australia are actually Australian and this bloke, probably from Yemen, had absolutely no idea where he was going. You know things are on the slide when your taxi driver has sat nav in his car!!
Thankfully Dan knew where to go and despite old Mohammed doing his best to get us lost, he safely navigated us to the Griffins Head (www.griffinshead.com), the venue for the party.
Ria and Dan had booked the balcony room for the night and as well as the great views of Hindmarsh Square, their guests had a massive tab at the bar. We were there a little earlier so Ria could finish off the last of the decorations, so Marc smashed ALL the Aussie boys at pool!!
As the place began filling up, Marc got to see a few old faces as well as some new ones. At long, long last he met his 'little' cousin Josh. With him was his good old Uncle Ian, Vicky, Paula and Dick. Josh was great, Paula and d*** too and it was good to see Vicky again.
Keith rolled up with Jo and Liam and being the bigger man, Marc went up and said hello, that was before getting stuck in conversation with d*** for a good hour...god that man can chat!! Marc caught up with Dan's fantastic family too, including his mum, Bob and the awesome 'Nana'!!
Marc got drunk for the first time since that frightful night before we left to come away (thoughts of being up on stage and Seven Nation Army on the bandeoke) and even joined the after party back at the casino, all be it feeling rather sleepy. The music there wasn't quite 'boom boom boom' enough for the musically challenged Aussie folk so we hitched a few more taxis back to Ria and Dan's place.
Once there, the 'boom boom boom' was boom boom booming and Marc rushed into his room to check the Arsenal score on the internet. Blackburn had held them to a 0-0 draw in the fifth round of the FA Cup at the Emirates, broadcasted live over here at 23:00. Guess he didn't miss too much then, but Ria and Dan, Marc must love you guys dearly to sacrifise an Arsenal match for you!
Marc lasted until about 04:00, before finally going to bed.
Congratulations to Ria and Dan then, not only for your engagement but for a wonderful party. Ria you looked beautiful princess!
Back At The Farm
