In India, Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India on 26 January 1950.[1]
The date of 26 January was chosen to honour the declaration of independence of 1930 at Lahore. The new Constitution of India, as drafted and approved by the Constituent Assembly of India, was mandated to take effect on January 26, 1950, to commemorate the 1930 declaration. On that day in 1950, India became a republic. It is one of the three national holidays in India. While the main parade takes place in the national capital, New Delhi, at theRajpath before the President of India (currently Pranab Mukherjee), the anniversary is also celebrated with varying degrees of formality in state capitals and other centres.
There are many celebrations today and Jason and I are hoping to find some live music tonight. The street has many more vendors on it and women like the one in the picture are selling Republic day trinkets.
We saw two Camels coming up the street while we were enjoying yet another sugar cane juice. They stopped because we were taking pictures and asked if I wanted a ride. I declined and did touch the camels, Dave would have told me "Don't touch it", they were not soft and I did get the hebby geebies until I was able to wash my hands. On the way back from our walk Jason warned me not to walk in the water as that was where the camel pee'd, yuk. The Camel guy demanded money because we took pictures. The guys gave them 20 rupees. Shiesters.
I went to my grape guy and the purple grapes didn't look that hot today so I decided on green grapes. He gave me 40 rupees back out of my hundred, I guess green are cheaper than purple because they are not as tasty.
We returned to our room as Julie is going for another treatment today. She says that they told her she would have to lay with her head down for four hours this time. She thinks they will have to knock her out for her to be able to tolerate it.
I applied for a job at home today with Pembina Pipelines, technology is wonderful.
So only two more sleeps till we come home and I can't wait. We will leave the hospital Monday about 5 pm to get to the Mumbai airport around 8 or 9 pm. Our flight leaves around 1 am on the 29th which is actually Tuesday. We arrive in Munich at 0555 am and have to wait until 1150 am to fly out to Toronto. We arrive in Toronto at 1455 leave at 1800hrs and land in Edmonton at 2014 or 8:00 pm. So you see we will be traveling back in time on our way home. We are very ready to come home.
Had a nice visit with Nutan again, tomorrow we have to say goodbye, it was my goal coming to India to find a friend and destiny made it happen. She gave me a lesson on tying a scarf to completely cover the hair and face leaving only a slit for the eyes. Very fun!
Tonight Jason and I are going for Tandoori chicken to a restaurant that he saw on one of his night walks. If we can avoid the hospital food, we will.

Bette Rae So glad you found a friend in Nutan! Your adventures have been fun to read, and the pictures are great. Hope Jason continues to feel good. You have a very long flight home, hope you are able to get some sleep along the way.
Brend and Lar Hi you two :) Nean your emoticons are very cool, they seem to add to an already interesting and entertaining blog. It is good you guys got to experience a special holiday there. This one is probably more personal to India than any other. Good pics again, at least the camel didn't spit on you :) that would not have been great heh. Hope you found some live music, what happened to your guide? We are very anxious to have you both back home and the count down is on!! :):) Sending lots of love and hugs
