Better late than never suits Surjio. At about 7:00pm Surjio and his pretty girl friend, who's voice sounds like music, showed up and asked if we would like to go out with them. Sunday evening is a much livelier night than any night so far, from our balcony we could hear live music and there were quite a few more vendors on the streets. We both wanted to go and quickly got ready, but the head sister did not want us to leave the hospital. Surjio spoke to Dr. Malek and so did Jason who told Dr. Malek that he was going with Surjio and that was that. So Dr. Malek had the nurse draw up a paper that basically said that Jason was discharging himself against the Doctor's wishes. He signed the paper and the five of us were off for an outing. Dustin came with us but his Mom couldn't come as she had had more procedures and was bound to the wheel chair. We drove approximately 5 km to a much busier part of the city with a larger variety of stores. I bought some things; an example is the picture of me with my new blouse, and then Surjio provided us with some ethnic treats. First we had corn stir fried on a hot plate and then spices of your choice added. This was very spicy and tasty. Next we went to a bakery and we had a samosa, this one was a vegetarian one and was also delicious. Surjio's girl friend insisted we try a Ragusalla which is a Bengal delicasey which is a white spongy ball soaked in a clear sugary sauce. This I liked very much as I enjoy sweets in small amounts and it was perfect. The last item was also a sweet and looked like a small green cone with a nutty filling and silver foil on the outside. This treat had a perfume type flavor and was very floury but the silver film is supposed to be good for you. This was not my favorite. Lastly Surjio wanted to treat us to roasted chicken, we first went to their equivlalent of our Kentucky fried chichen but they were out of the type of chicken that Surjio was looking for. So we found our car and drove to this little place that made Tandoorie chicken. The cook uses a Tandoor oven to bake the chicken which was previously rubbed with the red curry spice. All three of us really enjoyed this chicken which was served with sweet lime and red onions. I have a picture, check it out.
While I had Surjio's attention I spoke to him about the CCSVI clinic and that it would have been nice if they had their own facility that could accomodate the North Americans better with less rules and better food choices. Surjio reports that the wheels are already in motion for this to occur and that they are looking at the Cayman Islands as a location which is closer and easier to get to. I was very happy with the news as India is not a destination I would seek out again.
This morning we were up at 7:00 and had an egg sandwhich for breakfast. We decided to go for a walk (escape) and went to get more rupees as I spent what I had last night. I then went to my fruit booth for some grapes. The vendor saw me coming, put the 1k weight on the scale, filled it up with the purple grapes I like and handed me the bag. Obviously I am now one of his regular custormers. We then went to the coffee shop as Jason was wanting a chocolate shot like he had purchased previously, but alas none were available. We then returned to the hospital as short trips out are less noticeable. We did get a visit from the Momma and she requested that we let them know when we are going for a walk around the grounds
. We said no problem Momma.
The Lunch - today was the day that the colledge was delivering our made for Canadians lunch and it was the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning! I waited...noon....12:30....1:00.....1:30 and just when I have given up a knock on the door! Check out the pictures we had Mac and Cheese, fresh green salad with ripe fresh tomatoes and a light oil and vinegar dressing, garlic bread with real garlic and a mocha moose desert! Our critique sounded like "Ambrosia", "Nector of the Gods", "I can't stop eating", etc. I tried desperately to get a hold of Swapnil but to no avail. I also tried to get a hold of the hospital dietician to show her what Canadian/North American food looked like, but she didn't answer.
A satisfying luch put us in the mood for another walk about which caused another ruckus with the staff. As per the Momma's instruction we told her we were going for a walk around the hospital grounds and the one fiesty nurse told us not no, maybe later. Well that went over with my son like a brick and he told her that he didn't need permission. We ended up having to sign another paper to discharge without consent to go for a walk on the hospital premisise. I am no longing involving myself in these confrontations, Jason is on his own, I do keep warning him not to push too much as he could be kicked out. Tomorrow is the last treatment....
We got back, it was super hot outside but Jason again chose the 10 flights of stairs for exercise. This is so good, he genuinely has much more energy that he did at home. He has been doing his own physical therapy through out the day and he is actually moving his shoulder quite a bit. This is not due to this treatment but to his previous nerve grafting in 2007. Dr. Malek says we won't see the benefits of the stem cells for probably 3 - 6 months.
I went back out in search of a T-shirt for Jason as his only T-shirt was dirty. I went to the Big Bizare and found a shirt that was made for him. It's a T-shirt that is reversible, the outside say "Trouble" and the inside says...check out the picture. Anyway I couldn't resist.
While I was away the colledge guy Swapnil came by to ask how we liked the lunch. Jason told him how much we enjoyed it and he said he would see about providing us supper as well. We will see...oh and by the way I didn't get the syrup.
