Zion National Park what a fitting name for this majestic place. Zion has several meanings in the Bible including fortification, raised up and City of God. Here you are surrounded by majestic peaks that rise almost straight up and the deep coral colors make the views magnificent.
We had breakfast at The Spotted Dog, a hotel restaurant across from where we stayed that offered a breakfast buffet. Breakfast was delicious and we were now ready for the day ahead. We were prepared with our wet hiking shoes and walking stick be bought yesterday.
We rode the free shuttle from town into the park then again used the free shuttle to stop at the many viewpoints in the park and explore. My favorite thing to do was The Narrows - we rode the bus to the final stop at the Temple of Sinawava, walked the 1.1 mile Riverside Walk trail along the Virgin river, at the end of the trail you can then walk into the river and follow the river up in to the Canyon. You can walk as little or as much as 8 miles up the river, I do not know how much we exactly hiked in the river but we went far enough to witness the beauty of the Canyon.
After lunch we headed to the Lower Emerald pool trail and were a bit disappointed that the waterfall was a trickle and we did not really see much color in the water down below. We did have a view of Angel's Landing in the background of the trail. We rode the shuttle back down the road and stopped for the short hike up to the viewpoint of the Court of the Patriarchs (pic in the blog post) names from left to right are Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Many of the other peaks and mesas also have biblical names.
This National Park is a must see. We had a great time here and next time I will schedule more time to explore the area.
